If you've ever wanted to try an Olympic sport, without the mountains or the beaches, then curling might just be for you! The Columbus Curling Club's Learn To Curl Clinics are designed for beginners who want to try curling. Whether you're looking to eventually join a curling league, or just check something off your bucket list, you can expect a fun evening of sportsmanship both on and off the ice.
The cost is $60/participant for a two-hour session led by certified curling instructors. A group can all sign up for the same learn to curl together if the spots are available, but registration is required for each individual.
The session consists of 15 minutes of off-ice instruction, about 50 minutes learning how to sweep and deliver stones, then it's off to play a couple of ends of a game. Afterwards, you are invited to spend some time in the warm room broomstacking (socializing) with your team and opponents.
If the participant is under 18 years of age then their parent/legal guardian will need to sign a liability release form. We also have a Concussion Awareness and Information sheet for parents to read.
Plan to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to sign in and and change your shoes.
- Bring a clean pair of rubber soled tennis shoes to change into at the club. This is required.
- Wear loose fitting, stretchy clothing. Jeans are not recommended as they may restrict leg movement.
- Dress in layers. The air temperature on the ice is around 40 degrees, but can get as low as 32 degrees depending on the outdoor temperature. You may get warm from sweeping and want to remove a layer of clothes.
Absolutely!
