Mask Requirement and Recommendations

(Approved by CCC Board vote on August 29, 2021)

All non-fully vaccinated individuals inside the Columbus Curling Club must wear a face mask when more than 1 person is at the club.  Face mask must fit appropriately and cover the nose, mouth, and chin completely.  Face masks with vents are prohibited. “Buff” or balaclava style masks are also prohibited. Non-fully vaccinated individuals may briefly lower their mask to drink but should immediately replace them to cover the nose, mouth, and chin completely. Non-fully vaccinated individual should social distance (be at least 6 ft away from others) when eating and immediately replace mask when done.

All fully vaccinated individuals are encouraged to wear face masks inside the club but are NOT required to do so. Fully vaccinated individuals should consider local public health recommendations for wearing masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (Franklin County Public Health Advisory here).

The Columbus Curling Board reserves the right to require masks for ALL visitors to the club depending on the current conditions and CDC and public health recommendations.

How to Request an Exemption to the Mask Requirement

The following categories of people are exempt from the requirement to wear a mask:

  • A child under the age of 2 years;
  • A person with a disability who cannot wear a mask, or cannot safely wear a mask, for reasons related to the disability;
  • A person for whom wearing a mask would create a risk to workplace health, safety, or job duty as determined by the workplace risk assessment.

The CCC will review requests for exemptions to the masking requirement. Those seeking an exemption can:

COVID-19 Vaccination Policy

(Approved by CCC Board vote on August 8, 2021)

Effective October 4, 2021, all individuals entering the Columbus Curling Club must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Fully vaccinated is defined as having received 2 doses of Pfizer/BioNTech covid vaccine, OR 2 doses of Moderna covid vaccine, OR 1 dose of Johnson&Johnson’s Jannsen covid vaccine no later than 2-weeks prior to entering the Columbus Curling Club.  For example, to enter on the club on October 4, 2021, an individual would have had to receive their full vaccination dosage by September 20, 2021. (CDC definition of fully vaccinated here).

Exceptions to the vaccination requirement are reserved for the following groups:

  • Individuals ineligible based on the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization of Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines or FDA’s approval of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine (ex: children under 12 years of age)
  • Individuals with a note from a medical professional
  • Contractors hired by CCC to perform work (contractors will be required to wear masks in the facility)
  • Vendors making deliveries to CCC (vendors will be required to wear masks in the facility)

If an individual opts not to show vaccination status or does not qualify for an exemption, they may enter the building if they show a negative COVID viral test result that was performed no sooner than 3 days prior to entering the building. A negative test result would be required each time an individual enters the building. The Columbus Curling Club will NOT reimburse individuals for the cost of Covid tests. All costs incurred for testing will be paid entirely by the individual.

Unless previously submitted/provided to CCC, individuals should be prepared to show at the door their COVID-19 Vaccination card, negative COVID test results that was administered within 3 days of the event, or document supporting an exemption from the policy.

Any individual - vaccinated or unvaccinated - who tests positive for the covid virus will be asked to stay away from the club until the appropriate period of isolation as recommended by the CDC has passed OR a negative covid test is shown OR isolation release. (CDC guidelines for quarantine and isolation here).

How to Request Exemption to the Vaccine Policy

Exceptions to the vaccination requirement are reserved for the following groups:

  • Individuals ineligible based on the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization of Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines or FDA’s approval of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine (ex: children under 12 years of age)
  • Individuals with a note from a medical professional
  • Contractors hired by CCC to perform work (contractors will be required to wear masks in the facility)
  • Vendors making deliveries to CCC (vendors will be required to wear masks in the facility)

How To Submit Vaccine Status and Exemption Requests

CCC will verify the vaccination status or of members and guests (with proof of vaccination or an exemption). For those visiting the club who opt not to disclose vaccine status, CCC will verify a recent negative covid test result.

Forms of Proof of being Fully Vaccinated (see above definition)

All options must include your name, and indicate that you received the COVID-19 Vaccine*.

Proof of vaccination can be in the form of one of the following:

  • CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Card
  • Screenshot of Pharmacy record
  • Screenshot of Immunization record

Ways to Submit Vaccine Status and Exemption Requests

There are two methods for submitting vaccine status and exemption requests:

  1. Online verification (strongly encouraged by not required)
  2. In-person at the door

For online verification, only the Board of Directors Governance Team (Maria Maxwell, Kirsten Dangaran, Jeff Pelletier) will have access to the online system to review the submitted documentation. Documentation will be deleted immediately after being reviewed by the Governance Team. Deleted information is automatically and permanently removed from the server.

For in-person verification, all members and guests can present their proof of vaccination, exemption request, or negative covid test result in-person at the Columbus Curling Club during announced dates/times to any board member. This will include most league nights and events. If needed, additional volunteers will be recruited to provide full coverage during CCC leagues and programs.

For purposes of accountability, the Governance Team and board of directors will have access to a secure document to track the status of CCC members and frequent guests. The basic information included in the tracking document will be individual’s name, date of CCC vaccine policy verification, if that person is required to wear a mask or not, or if that person is required to submit negative test results.

Guests attending single-day events & providing their documentation in person will NOT have their basic information stored.

If necessary, conditions of play may need to be updated to ensure safe play for members and guests.

Policy Communications

For transparency, signs will be posted at the entrance to communicate the current COVID policy requirements.

There will be signage throughout the club to help ensure best practices for member health and safety.

As needed, the board will communicate any changes to the current policy via newsletters and updates to the CCC website.

Refund Policy

The refund policy of the Columbus Curling Club is intended to address requests for a refund of A) Membership and Instructional League Fees, and B) Bonspiels, Outing Fees and Learn to Curl clinics. Refund requests should be submitted to the Treasurer as soon as an individual becomes aware that they will not be able to participate in curling activities.

A) Membership and Instructional League Fees - The club will refund members in the following situations:

1. League cancellation – should a league be cancelled before the curling season begins, the member’s preference of a full refund, credit on account or enrollment in another available league, will be honored.

2. Season ending injury – defined as an injury that would remove the member from further play for the balance of the season and the playoffs.

3. Relocation outside of the area due to work or family reasons.

4. Health concerns or illness of the member or his/her immediate family for an extended period of time during the season.

5. Other reasons deemed valid by the Board of Directors.

6. Once league play has begun a 50% refund will be granted if cancellation occurs within the first 6 weeks of curling. No refund will be given after 6 weeks of play.

The Club does not refund fees paid for registration in the following cases:

1. Expulsion from the club.

2. Voluntary withdrawal of the member unrelated to any of the situations listed above.

3. Requests related to previous curling seasons.

4. Other reasons deemed valid by the Board of Directors.

B) Bonspiels, Outing Fees and Learn to Curl clinics

Please let us know as soon as possible if there is any chance or concern about not being able to make your scheduled session.

If you give us enough notice and we can find a replacement for your slot, we can then accommodate a refund.

Unfortunately, if we are unable to fill that slot, we will not be able to issue a refund.

We are a non-for-profit center that is solely run on our membership volunteering and one of our goals is to provide curling as affordably as possible.

Refund requests must be directed to the Treasurer in writing and should be submitted as early as possible. All requests will be reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors before any funds are released.

Disclaimer on Falsifying Vaccine Documentation

Presenting false documentation as a form of proof for vaccine status is illegal. Those found doing so will no longer be in good standing with the Columbus Curling Club and can have privileges revoked.

Moreover, the FBI has categorized the unauthorized use of an official government agency's seal (such as HHS or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)) as a crime. The FBI has issued a statement citing falsifying documentation as an act that could be "punishable under Title 18 United States Code, Section 1017, and other applicable laws," and added "do not buy fake vaccine cards, do not make your own vaccine cards, and do not fill-in blank vaccination record cards with false information."
