Volunteers, Donations Needed for Beers of Columbus Bonspiel

The Beers of Columbus Open Bonspiel is coming up Dec. 2-4, and we need your help making it a great experience for our guests. Could you help out in the following ways?

Volunteers: It takes an army to run this spiel. We need help with such tasks as bartending, meal setup, cleanup, livestreaming, taking photos, decorating, etc.--especially on Friday (Dec. 2). Look for signup sheets to come out soon. And drop-in helpers are always welcome, but signing up ahead of time really helps us determine if we have enough help during busy times.

Chili Drive: Our Saturday (Dec. 3) lunch will be a chili drive. This is new this year, so we are looking for members to create crock pots of chili that we can serve Dec. 3. If you make a mean chili, contact Jason Connelly at [email protected] to let him know what you can make. We will also need some cornbread, so bakers are welcome to pitch in, too!

Prize Donations: We raise a substantial amount of money for the club through our raffle, so we need your help in donating prizes for it. In past years we have asked for booze, but this year we would prefer some different types of prizes. Think things that are related to curling, or Ohio, or something like that. We will have a table set up in the back room for your donations and will take them through noon on Saturday (Dec. 3).

Baked Goods: Our spiel is famous for its food. Keep that tradition alive by baking something and bringing it in. We'll take cookies, brownies, muffins, cakes, Buckeyes, etc. There will be a table for that in the back room as well and we will take them until 5 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 3).

Beers of Columbus Bonspiel Play-in for CCC Teams.

The Beers of Columbus Open Bonspiel already has 21 guest teams in it (with eight on the waiting list), but we saved three spots for local teams. To represent Columbus in our signature event, we are offering a play-in event to narrow the interested teams down to three.

The play-in games will be held Saturday (Nov. 19) at 9 a.m. If more than six teams enter, there will be a draw Nov. 19 at 11:30 a.m. as well.

If a second round is needed, that will be held Sunday (Nov. 20) at 8 p.m.

There is no charge to play in. The games will be eight ends, with an extra end to break ties.

Please have at least three members of your bonspiel team play on this date. Rosters are not required at registration, but must be e-mailed to [email protected] m by Nov. 11.

Registration closes Friday (Nov. 11) at 10 p.m. You can sign up here on the club Bonspiel page:

Match-ups will be drawn by lot. If there are byes, they will be drawn by lot as well. The draw will be held on Facebook Live on Saturday (Nov. 12).

If you are one of the three teams that get into the spiel, your first draw will be Friday (Dec. 2) at 9 a.m., with a second game either at 1:30 p.m. or 6 p.m. Please make arrangements in advance to be able to play at that time.

CCC Team wins The Columbus Ladies.
Congratulations to the Busby rink (Mary May, Emma Rau, Nancy Busby and Diane Cole) for winning the Big Fat Greek Bonspiel Oct. 22-23! It was a great event with 18 teams--our largest women's spiel ever. Thank you to all of those who helped out. The spiel raised nearly $2,000 for the club. Here are the final results:

Alpha Event: Busby (Columbus) over Khusid (Mayfield)
Beta Event: Kluchurosky (CCC) over Rozzell (CCC)
Gamma Event: Demers (Potomac) over Simpson (Cincinnati)

Sign-ups Open for Men's SliderSpiel

This is a gentle reminder that sign-ups are open for the Men's SliderSpiel, March 3-5. You can sign up now on the club bonspiel page:

Yes, this spiel is the same weekend as Men's Club Nationals, but don't wait until after Playdowns to sign up. If your team makes Nationals, we will happily refund your registration fee!

And we know that several of you are traveling to bonspiels this fall and winter. Be sure to tell them about this spiel, which again will be held March 3-5, 2017.

Cheers,
